November 1, 2011 Hector Aristizábal, author of The Blessing Next to the Wound, is being honored with the 2012 Otto René Castillo Award established to support the ongoing development of political theatre internationally. The Award is produced by the Castillo Theatre in NYC, one of the programs of the All Stars Project, an organization dedicated to promoting human development through the use of performance, on and off stage. The Award is named for the Guatemalan poet and revolutionary Otto René Castillo, who was murdered by that country’s military junta in 1968. September 26, 2011 Lantern is very sad to announce the death of 2004 Nobel Peace Laureate and Lantern author, Wangari Maathai, in Nairobi, after a battle with cancer.
